  • 2 friccish // May 21, 2008 at 7:17 am

    ditto, can’t log in here

  • 3 Assassinador // May 21, 2008 at 7:17 am

I haven’t been able to log in the site since yesterday.

  • 4 [@] Chronos[Ha-G] // May 21, 2008 at 7:18 am

    Nada, man. I can’t connect.

  • 5 TheLinx // May 21, 2008 at 7:18 am

Can’t log in to Steam, but the support pages work fine…

Remember when there was a storm over at Seattle and all servers was down for like, hours?

  • 6 Mark // May 21, 2008 at 7:19 am

No luck here in the UK either…

  • 7 Fargmo // May 21, 2008 at 7:19 am

Technical problems? Can’t connect to Steam? QUICK! To the blogosphere!!

  • 8 [@] Chronos[Ha-G] // May 21, 2008 at 7:20 am

I hit “submit” too quick -

I get a popup stating that “Steam is having trouble connecting to the Steam servers.”, followed by a troubleshoot option.

Given the circumstances, though, I’m assuming that “troubleshoot” will be unable to help me at the moment.

I was able to log in, like, three hours ago. Right now, however, Steam seems down.

    Bad Valve! Bad!

  • 10 [@] Chronos[Ha-G] // May 21, 2008 at 7:26 am

I’m checking the forums right now - or at least, I’m TRYING. Forum pages are loading slow as hell right now. I’m trying to figure out if it’s due to their servers or if it’s due to the squillion and one people trying to get onto the forums because of the servers.

Oh my Steam does work. The friends network is all, but that’s all trouble so far. That error often comes from errors in the transaction of the game purchase, but could be caused by credit card fraud too, or investigation of it. Following many people have issues with Steam in these comments, it’s more likely Steam is down, or a serious DNS error is occuring, or something technical.
    My Steam works.

  • 12 Draco_2k // May 21, 2008 at 7:32 am

I can log in, but not launch any games, and Friends network is down…

I cant get connected to the steam login servers at this time either , thanks for the blogg and posts. Im in the UK

Also on a slightly off topic issue, steam are selling disciples II gold and jagged alliance 2 gold which contains JA & JA 2 unfinished business, they advertise JA 2 yet there has been an issue for years now that the steam version of JA 2 unfinished business has an error: “Error when saving game” so you cant play the dam game, this will be my last purchase from steam and this just goes to show how bad this activation and bloatware rubbish is for users.

  • 14 firefly28 // May 21, 2008 at 7:37 am

I have also tried my connection on both a vista and xp PC

  • 15 DropDead // May 21, 2008 at 7:39 am

Meh I’m getting this too.. Maybe the steam severs built up too much condensation…

  • 16 Pimp // May 21, 2008 at 7:53 am

Im also unable to connect to steam.

I think someone pulled out the plug to the server to plug the vacume in.

  • 17 Bongo // May 21, 2008 at 7:57 am

Canadians cannot connect to Steam either, it would seem.

  • 18 Masterburner // May 21, 2008 at 8:01 am

    Nope, I can’t connect either… I’m from the Netherlands.

I’ll see if I can get on their newspage or forum to see what’s going on……..

  • 19 Pimp // May 21, 2008 at 8:04 am

Connection to their site is sometimes working and sometimes not.

When I managed to get on there for a few seconds I couldn’t see any mention of a problem.

  • 20 DropDead // May 21, 2008 at 8:13 am

Don’t worry, I’m sure they’ve sent in the plumber. It’s probably just a broken Valve in Steam.

  • 21 jake // May 21, 2008 at 8:14 am

whaaa i was able to login about an hour ago but not anymore =[

  • 22 Greg // May 21, 2008 at 8:22 am

I am unable to connect to my steam client as well. Also, my 2 servers are unable to authenticate with the steam servers.

One is running Day of Defeat Source and the other is running Team Fortress 2.

The issue seems more widespread than just on the client side.

  • 23 Verdugo // May 21, 2008 at 8:28 am

I can’t log in either, I always get a message saying “Steam is having trouble connecting to the Steam servers.”

    :/

  • 24 poptya // May 21, 2008 at 8:31 am

I signed on about 2 hours ago, I’m still logged in

  • 25 Punjabi Fury // May 21, 2008 at 8:37 am

*gasp* Everyone’s having trouble? Not just me?

  • 26 DropDead // May 21, 2008 at 8:39 am

Can get on the main website, but not on the forums or support pages.

News page works, but nothing on there about it.

  • 27 Nanosheep // May 21, 2008 at 8:40 am

Yea the forums and all were still up here (GMT +0000) this morning. Come afternoon and they’re all dead.

I think this is the reason: http://www.e-sports.sk/clanok/clanok.php?id=8939

  • 28 DropDead // May 21, 2008 at 8:41 am

From the stats page ( http://www.steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=stats ) it says there are 800,000 users on steam. Maybe it’s a minority of people with these problems?

Has anyone tried to get in contact with Steam?

  • 29 TZer0 // May 21, 2008 at 8:42 am

Steam is up and running again.

  • 30 Punjabi Fury // May 21, 2008 at 8:44 am

    Yep, fixed.

  • 31 AD // May 21, 2008 at 8:48 am

An official statement said that someone came to the server block diguised, and started draining the server. Valve are waiting for an engineer to fix the problem

  • 32 Verdugo // May 21, 2008 at 8:52 am

Now I’m getting the same thing as Chris. What the hell is going on?

  • 33 TheLinx // May 21, 2008 at 8:52 am

    NOW I can log in.

    I live in Sweden.

  • 34 TheLinx // May 21, 2008 at 8:54 am

    #27:
That was two years ago :P

  • 35 Pimp // May 21, 2008 at 9:04 am

It seems to be up again, I can log in now.

    From London UK

  • 36 Sam // May 21, 2008 at 9:12 am

I’m still having trouble logging on. I’m in Arizona, USA.

    http://www.steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=stats

It says there are currently zero concurrent steam users below the graph. What does that mean?

  • 37 Greg // May 21, 2008 at 9:13 am

I have not tested whether or not I can log into my client, but as of 5 minutes ago, both my dod server and my tf2 server were able to authenticate.

  • 38 [@] Chronos[Ha-G] // May 21, 2008 at 9:37 am

I still can’t log in. Gah.

Also, I went to the link in #36, and I found this:

    http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/2483/negativesteamuserswtfsf9.jpg

    Negative Steam users! WTF!?

  • 39 Sam // May 21, 2008 at 9:58 am

    “Negative Steam users! WTF!?”

I noticed that. What kind of error would make it put out negative numbers?

  • 40 Joerdgs // May 21, 2008 at 10:37 am

Steam just got back up here in The Netherlands. Almost thought my router kicked Steam in the head, but ‘luckily’ everyone else has the same problem :D

  • 41 [@] Chronos[Ha-G] // May 21, 2008 at 1:13 pm

I dunno when exactly steam came back up for me, but it’s up now.

    Woot.

  • 42 The_Wildcat // May 21, 2008 at 6:20 pm

I had this problem early this morning and began searching. It has happened before, usually during a storm or some such event.

The issue was addressed in a steam forums thread and everything, but they offered no explination. Just “we are looking into it” and “servers should be up now”.

  • 43 An Evil Penguin // May 23, 2008 at 2:47 am

As far as I know the servers went down. However I had no problem getting into my games on offline mode and then playing them online anyway…

  • 44 Jerryboy1993 // May 23, 2008 at 2:19 pm

Yeah, I got the same message trying to gift my friend. I had to call my credit card company making sure steam didn’t rip me off. Luckily, the fact that they were gunna notify me was a lie, so I just purchased again when it was back up. Really confusing!!!

  • 45 jfab199 // May 25, 2008 at 5:39 pm

I have a problem with steam and the support people haven’t answered my question in over a week, they are quite useless.

  • 46 yo // Aug 4, 2008 at 7:37 pm
