So, as you may or may not notice, there are some Google ads on the sidebar now. This is an attempt to see if I can cover my site hosting costs through ad revenue (I have three sites now). Hopefully they’re not too annoying or distracting.
If you have a wordpress blog and want to try Google ads on them, I used a plugin that was pretty easy called Adsense Manager. Just download it and throw it in your plugins folder, and it lets you manage your ads pretty easily, even generating widgets for each of them that you can just drag and drop into place (if your blog supports widgets).
Since Saturday I’ve earned 43 cents. So it’s paying off already!

My theory about Adsence only taking ad hints from the post seems to be correct. The only ads I’m seeing are ads for Adsence. What’s up with that?…..and where’s that comic that’s 2 months late? The sign at the mainpage should read; MAYBE, not MAY.

Ah man, you got the image ads as well as the text ads? I like how your post made it sound like you are poor so the ad is something for people living paycheck to paycheck.
By the way, I put adsense on my page and the ads it shows are repetitive and not very conducive to the content. My click through rate is pathetic and there does not seem to be any way to encourage what types of ads are shown on my page. Google takes all the control. Basically, if you find something better let us know.

You should try Project Wonderful. It’s basically auctioning off advertising space. People place bids and the highest bidder wins. It pays you based on the time that the ad is on the site, not the amount of clicks it gets, so there are no problems with quickfraud and all that. A bonus is that it’s by Ryan North, the dude from Dinosaur Comics, so that’s awesome.
