So, my interview with Steve Gibson and other members of the Shacknews team happens today. I’m a little jittery but also excited, and looking forward to talking to them.
When I found out the interview would be conducted over Skype, a thought immediately popped into my head. A great and terrible thought that, once lodged in my pulsing brain, refused to shake loose.
I should liveblog the interview.
Liveblogging my own interview! What a great idea! It would keep my readers entertained during the interview, plus, it would set me apart from the other interviewees, because seriously, who the hell would ever think to liveblog their own interview? No one, that’s who the hell!
More importantly, it would show Shacknews (best gaming site ever) that I’m all about reporting breaking gaming news, such as the creator of a popular gaming comic applying for a job on a popular gaming news site. That’s, like, gaming news times two. Live! The only way it could be more game-related is if Steve and I were conducting the interview inside a game of Halo 3 or TF2, which, now that I think about it, would be a pretty damn cool idea too.
I immediately informed my wife of my brilliant liveblogging idea. She reacted by putting her face in her hands. That’s… not a good sign, generally, when she does that. I was kind of hoping for a high-five or something.
Her concerns were that, if I were busy liveblogging the interview I might not do a very good job of, you know, actually interviewing.
And she’s got a point. I really need to focus on the interview, make sure I’m presenting myself well, and make sure I’m paying attention to what’s being asked instead of hammering away at the keyboard in an effort to report to my readers about how I don’t know what I was just asked because I was too busy hammering away at the keyboard.
Basically, she suggested I concentrate on getting the job first and foremost. If I get hired, then I can bust out all my goofball ideas. And she’s right. It’s good advice. Lucky for me, my wife is smart and level-headed.
Lucky for you, I’m neither. So! The liveblog will be going up this afternoon! Check back here around 3pm! Liveblog! Whoo! Liveblog! Whoo!

That wouldn’t be LIVE enough.

I wish you luck with your crazy crazy idea. Hopefully, they’ll see this as a sign of your creativity and not a sign of your insanity.

Out of curiosity, are you going to inform the interviewers of your plan? Like maybe for brownie points? You know, something like, “That’s an excellect question. So excellent, in fact, I’m informing all my readers of it right this instant via liveblog… oh, I’m liveblogging, by the way.”

This has the unmistakbale stench of genius to it! Well, that and madness. Actually, mostly madness.
Good luck with the interview.

Face in the hands means she DOESN’T like the idea? Oh man, I may have been reading my wife wrong all these years.
Good luck! Be sure to grab a beer and a shot of peppermint schnapps to loosen you up for the interview.

Psh. a Live Blog? That’s nubbish.
You and steve should create a private gmod server in a citadel level, steve sets his player as combine elite, you as, ehm, how about male_07, and you conduct the interview using voicechat.
you basically fumble your way through the interview, steve seems fairly displeased, so you change the server from private to public. once a few mingebags spawn, have steve accidentally bump into his ar2 laying on the desk, setting off its alt-fire and fragging all the mingebags.
This should free up some jobs in Purchasing.
also, remember that when you create the force field door for the interview room, put the plug right next to a custom model alarm clock, as to clear any confusion as to what the plug may be.

Reason and sanity are meaningless words here. Liveblog! Whoo!
Fact: I am faster than 80% of all snakes.
You might do well to inform your interrogators of similar feats.

Holy shit, jzimbert, that is one hell of a callback. Good work.
