Shacknews Awesomely Reports Clear Sky News And Is Awesome

August 18th, 2008 · 40 Comments · Games, Shacknews is Awesome

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. C.L.E.A.R. S.K.Y. has gone G.O.L.D., Shacknews reports in yet another a totally awesome news post, though the game has been pushed back from late August to early September.

No reason is given for the game’s release being moved until September 5th (Steam, through which the game will be exclusively downloadable, actually shows the release date as the 6th). Maybe they just want to compete with Spore. G.O.O.D. L.U.C.K. W.I.T.H T.H.A.T.

In other news about how awesome Shacknews is, they contacted me the other day, and I’ve got an interview scheduled for Tuesday afternoon. Which is awesome, perhaps even awesome to the max. It’s over Skype. That is totally Web 2.0. Maybe even more. Maybe Web 2.8. I’m excited.

    Stalker or Spore?
You could probably create Stalker with Spore.
But awesome news about the job, hope you get it.

Good luck with the interview! Though Skype? Pffh, that’s so web2.0 - web3.0 is all about the wireless neural nodes that allow for communication using only the power of THE MIND. And only requiring this fetching tinfoil fat.

    Sweet….

    Still haven’t played S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Pumped for it though, there have been scarce with genuine piss-pants experiences the last couple of months.

    But Skype?
Isn’t that what teaches todays younglings the obnoxious and obscene?
    BAN THE FILTH I SAY!

    Good luck, Chris!

I could never get into STALKER. I walked around the first level, didn’t really get what I was supposed to do, then promtly got killed by a dog.

BTW, Chris, it sounds like you really could use a job. Lately, my PT Cruiser’s been starting to smell like a Chrysler (You know the smell). If you clean it for me, I’ll give you all the change you can find in it.

    Good luck with your interview.

  • 14 Nyarlathotep // Aug 18, 2008 at 10:01 am

Whoah it’s over skype? You know, you could do the interview naked.

  • 15 Erkle // Aug 18, 2008 at 10:10 am

    Don’t forget to wear pants.

  • 16 O'Smiles // Aug 18, 2008 at 10:15 am

@ Nyarlathotep: I thought being nude was required to use Skype.

  • 17 Smurfy // Aug 18, 2008 at 10:17 am

I saw this earlier. Try to keep up.

  • 18 Smurfy // Aug 18, 2008 at 10:18 am

If you get the job I will ejaculate.

  • 19 Niteowl // Aug 18, 2008 at 10:32 am

I’m… I’m not sure if the comments are, you know censored. Smurfy makes me think they should be. Quite harshly, in fact.

Best of luck in your job interview. They would be EXTREMELY lucky to have you. To the max. Super max extreme. No, make that ExXxstreeeme!

  • 20 Ninja // Aug 18, 2008 at 10:36 am

Okay. Well luckily they have seen Concerned.

  • 21 Serio // Aug 18, 2008 at 11:12 am

Ooo, shiny! I mean Nice! Both the interview and the game. Though i’m making a wild bet saying they’ll have a hard time competing with Spore. I would have bought Stalker had it come out 2 months earlier, or one month later.

    Dude, it’s in the bag.

My advice for games-writing interviews, having succeeded at one as a candidate and conducted four more as an interviewer, is not to try to be professional. Enthusiasm is the primary quality.

I got my job because I wouldn’t shut up about Deus Ex. We gave my successor his because he seemed like one of us. We avoided like the plague the very professional-sounded, ambitious, smartly-dressed go-getter. He wasn’t someone we wanted to work with.

Hit on your potential employer. It’s a sure-fire plan for success. Also, wear nothing but a speedo. They’ll love it.

Where the hell is the new heavy thing?

  • 31 LaZodiac // Aug 18, 2008 at 2:56 pm

@Sam: Its not Monday in Valve Time yet.

@Chris: Good luck, and enjoy the money.

  • 32 Nonomu198 // Aug 18, 2008 at 3:06 pm

    @31
What IS Valve Time? (caps spree)

  • 33 a westie // Aug 18, 2008 at 3:11 pm

They’re based in Seattle, so presumably it’s Pacific time with DST adjustments. Of course, it’s always yesterday somewhere. Or maybe not. I never really understood how the international date line worked. And who decided Greenwich gets to set all the clocks?

Oooh, map idea. Shove around an atomic clock around the map to change time until the match is over and move the sun around… It’d be so hard to wrap your mind around, every match would end in stalemates.

  • 34 Cpt. Falcon // Aug 18, 2008 at 3:14 pm

I live in Seattle, and it’s 3:12 right now.
Technically, Valve is in Bellevue, not Seattle.

  • 35 a westie // Aug 18, 2008 at 3:17 pm

Actually, hold the phone. It’s officially now been Monday in every major inhabited area for 17 minutes. Valve has 23 hours and 43 minutes to get their stuff together. Otherwise, they’ve officially ruined TF2 and time itself.

  • 36 blackberry829 // Aug 18, 2008 at 4:09 pm

DELAYED?! What the hell! I have to start school on the second of September, and that game was all that was going to keep me through Labour Day weekend. Friggin’ lame.

  • 37 LaZodiac // Aug 18, 2008 at 5:33 pm

@32: By Valve Time I mean that mythic time that Valve works in. Like how “next week” is afew weeks from now and what have you. so poster 35 isn’t far off when he says they ruined, atlest, time.

In other news, they DID update it. Update coming monday-ish.

  • 38 Deth_Penguin // Aug 18, 2008 at 5:53 pm

Valve update! Arena mode, including a mountain industrial map.
