Finally got some time to play Oblivion today, and lots of stuff happened. You can read about some of this stuff, if you like, on the Living in Oblivion blog. Day 26 is online.
I’ll have another entry later this week, and at least one next week as well.
I also spent some time playing Call of Duty 4 multiplayer. In a word, addictive. It’s the most fun I’ve ever had completely sucking at something. I seriously am lucky to get a handful of kills each match, but it’s still a blast. I really enjoy the deathcam, too. If you get killed, it immediately shows you a few seconds of footage from the POV of the person who just killed you, killing you. It shows you in no uncertain terms how much you suck and how perhaps it was not the wisest choice to jump up onto the roof of a car in the middle of a firefight. Seriously, it does help you learn where you went wrong and helps you learn the maps better. I had what I thought was a nice spot of cover but watching the replay showed me my entire stupid body was exposed from the left side. Good to know!
As you rack up kills you increase in rank, unlock new weapons, and gain the ability to create new classes. Sure, it’s not balanced, since people who have been playing a while will have lots more weaponry than you, but it’s still damn fun and I like the system they have. A+++++. Would play again.

Long time reader. First time poster. CoD4’s killcam is great, except when it’s from the BLOODY HELICOPTER. Then it can fark right off.

Nondrick wasn’t adventuring, he merely was taking a STROLL in the sewers! Sewers are everywhere, under every city, why would they be called a dungeon?! what about the two maintenance fellows that he saw? they werent adventuring, they were doing their job!
And the boat… he didn’t sleep there for an adventure, boats sail all the time, not just because hes on it! theres a lot of npcs on boats these days, so hes just being like them! all the npcs do it!

Man, that link to “To the Death” reminded me of a game I was playing just a while ago, that a friend made up. We place buttons at the corners of CS_italy, spawn a few Hunters. and try to run to each button sequentially. The only weapon allowed was the shotgun. Out in the open, players are not allowed to kill the hunters. Players could only kill another player if they were running in the narrow halls, where the hunters couldnt follow. The hunters themselves were great for this map, I can’t count the times I would lose them in a narrow hall, run to another exit, and a hunter appear right in front of me. They’re like Spielberg Velociraptors!
The winner would be the one who got the most button pushes before being killed. The buttons themselves were always in the open, so they had to face the hunters even if they were the last man standing. We used 5 hunters for our game.

Yeah I love CoD4 too. I don’t mind the helicopters, because at least they’re earned by getting killstreaks, plus you can always hide from them in a building. I hate martydom though, that’s just cheap. I’m guessing there’s lots of no-martydom severs on the PC version?

No there aren’t lots of anti-martyrdom, just a few, as people liek to be cheap.
Chris man, you should try out the “Hardcore” game type… you can’t select it from the drop down menu, but when you see servers with Hardcore in the title or HC that’ll have it.
In Hardcore you have no radar until someone on your team gets it from killing 3 in a row, you can’t see your ammo and killing and being killed is much more realistic (i.e. 2 shots in the chest = you dead!).
Why play this madness? Because it makes for the most tense matches, and usually means people aren’t charging around like headless chickens, and there isn’t a bloomin’ helicopter constantly above you.

The Nondrick Update is fantastic. I can’t wait to see what fate befalls our bizarre little hero.

Loving the nondrick as usual.

Sorry to be the one to point it out, but it looks like the hlcomic.com/extras page has been defaced by spammers. The CSS is broken, and there’s a whole buttload of hidden spam links in the page source. (That’s a metric buttload, too, not the smaller imperial measure.)
Top Nondrick entry, anyway. Look forward to seeing how he non-quests his way out of this… :-)

Yup, funny how not doing anything “illegal” still got Nondrick into quests. I don’t get how those generic NPC’s manage to stay out of the trouble.
Anyway, those Fight to the Death entries were hilarious! Too bad they stopped coming two years ago, otherwise I almost would’ve wished for more.

COD4 is great. Made tips. The killcam is awesome too.

CoD 4 is simply epic in my opinion.
martyrdom can be cheap, but for those using it there is that moment of “Ha revenge lol”.
the weapons are more balanced that you think really as you see a lot of high ranking players usingthe m16 and mp5.

Spy sappin’ my floating restaurant!

Could you have possibly made an uglier avatar? Poor, poor Nondrick.
Also, Nondrick, the Ugliest NPC to Ever Roam Oblivion can throw FIREBALLS? WTF?
17 Eother // Jul 22, 2008 at 10:54 am
I’m pretty sure everybody can throw a tiny fireball. It’s weird.
18 Pirates // Jul 22, 2008 at 11:46 pm
and yet, h3 is much better
