Craig Pearson of PCGamer has a nice little article up suggesting some fun game-modes to look for if you’re thinking of dipping your toe into the daunting online world of Garry’s Mod.

For all the hundreds of hours I’ve spent in Garry’s Mod, I’m very much a noob when it comes to playing it online. I don’t really know why I’m so hesitant to join a G-Mod server — maybe it’s the complete chaos and confusion I find anytime I’ve done so, what with people flying around like crazy swinging giant prop smokestacks into everyone else or piling up thousands of explosive barrels to detonate or jerkily racing vehicles around or the customary 700 lua files I have to download before I can actually join a server or those weird RP servers where you get a job and rent an apartment but some jagoff keeps running up and shooting you with a magnum .357 that only he knows the hidden location of.

Okay, I guess I know exactly why I don’t play G-Mod online. But other than Prop Hunt, I hadn’t heard of any of the other games mentioned in the article, and now I might check them out with newfound confidence.

prop hunt sounds cool, try space build tho, theres something inherently fun in claiming an icy wasteland of a planet for your own and warning people off while you scurry around checking your life support systems to make sure they’re all working as they should.

    lrn2America

In the topic of America I saw a kid point to a map at the doctor’s office and say, “That’s our world, there are all the countries!” It was a map of the US…

I love the Idea of making a spaceship and launching it into other planets…

The freeze tag looks like a fun multiplayer game as well. Great link!

What? No mention of the awesome zombie mod? Travesty.

Beware of the NoX servers… odd people play there… Including me.
Its fun, but the people there tend to be less than helpfull (especially on the part of how to play the classes)
It IS fun though, and anyone that reads this and has Gmod should check it out

Those who want to investigate Spacebuild, just be careful. You can’t just build a ship and fly it into space (you’ll asphyxiate), take some time in SP to get used to the Life Support system. Also, a lot of SB servers run the horrific Combat Damage System mod, which is just a pain in the arse.

Those of you who like the idea of building combat things should look into GCombat instead. It’s the opposite of CDS (i.e. actually good rather than terrible).
