This was and is the most common question I got and continue to get about Concerned. How do you put a gun in a guy’s hand?
So, you have these ragoll props, and these gun props, and when you try to stick the gun in the hand of the ragdoll, it just won’t go! That’s because objects hate to touch each other and act pretty violently when you push them together.
That’s why you need to use the No Collide tool, which is one of the G-Mod construction tools. This allows objects to ignore each other.
Just shoot one object with the tool, then the other, and presto, they’ll pass right through each other.
Now, you can easily put the gun in the guy’s hand. Hurray. Now, stop asking me how to do it.
It can be a little tricky to get it to look right when it’s there. You’ll have to rotate it and move it around a lot, but you’ll get the hang of it. Or, you won’t and you’ll never try it again.
It’s probably not going to look great from every angle, so pick the angle you’re going to take the picture from first, and just worry about how it looks from that one angle. Otherwise, you’ll get it so it looks perfect from where you’re standing, but when you move to take a picture from somewhere else, it’ll look wonky.
If you’re putting multiple props together, such as in the image above,it’s a good idea to use your No Collide tool not just on ragoll/prop, but also on prop/prop. For instance, I No-Collided the wrench with the engie before sticking it in his belt, and I No-Collided the toolbox and the engie before I put it in his hand, but I also No-Collided the wrench and the toolbox with each other so they wouldn’t interfere with each other while I was posing them. Same with the pistol in his belt and his PDA — they were going to be in close proximity, so I made them ignore each other so they wouldn’t get in each other’s way while posing. Huh? Oh, you mean Frohman. Sad? That was freaking hilarious! The part with the Vorts just before the end had me coughing up valuable lung material.
While I too would love to see “The Return of Gordon Frohman”, I don’t want Chris to suffer from “burnout” concerning…. “Concerned”. (Okay, I totally deserve a thrashing for that sentence.)
Let me urge you (and everyone else) to try their hand at Gary’s Mod to make some cartoons or even full-blown comics yourselves. GM is quite easy to learn (a lot less steep learning curve than your average graphics program.) Don’t just sit around waiting for more Concerned (or 1 Fort), make your own world! It’s what Gary’s Mod is all about!
