If you’re anything like me, your job is a daily ten-hour soul-sucking black hole of uncreative repetition and stifling banality, bracketed at both ends by a frustrating hour-long crawl along dismal car-clotted highways where the only scenery is your gas tank gauge which slowly counts down not only the amount of ridiculously expensive petroleum being burned by your automobile but also the wasted moments of your meek and unrealized existence. You also love Team Fortress 2!
And, you love hearing people talk about TF2. That’s why you should check out the Control Point Podcast, which is sure to make any horrendous commute go faster.
I’ve only listened to a couple of them so far, but they’ve got a fun atmosphere and lots of chit-chat about TF2. If you’ve ever heard Car Talk on NPR, it sort of feels like that — some goofy guys dishing tips and info and laughing at each other’s comments. Most of them are either dedicated to a single player class, or a single map, with gameplay tips and opinions, as well as other random bits of news and updates. They also have several servers to play on, most in the US but one in Europe.
If you like TF2, and you like sound going in your ears, check it out!

I tried listening to one of these a while back, and like a lot of podcasts the first five minutes seemed to be unbroken cacophonous laughter by all concerned at something I didn’ t understand. Something about opening two briefcases, and one was the wrong one, and this was apparently really, really funny. I felt lost and left.
I’ve since discovered that it’s where the Spy Sappin’ My Sandwich song came from (as well as It’s Beginning To Look A lot Like Dustbowl, which I’d somehow missed until then), so totally willing to give it another go now.

It is a tad in-jokey, though I’ve discovered the ever-vigilant information sentinels at the TF2 Wiki have an explanation of said recurring jokes.

Christopher, why don’t you whore out your talent for more ads like every other cool guy on the internet?

Never you worry, little reader, mine blog-o-site shall be balls-deep in advertisements soon enough. This I so swear!

Coming soon to the 1fort blog, ‘How great Pepsi is and how I love it more than anything’. Followed next week by ‘How Mountain Dew is not rubbish and totally better than sex’. The sell-out begins.
Well, thanks for the link. I might check it out sometime.

I really must urge you to give this podcast a good shot. I still listen to it even if the guys make an idiot out of my avatar. The community is large but get in there and you’ll find funny, mature and like minded people with amazing stories to tell. Even if you don’t like the informative segments you can still enjoy this through the listener contributions and the host’s week. S give it a shot! Mija says so!
