Spotted this tidbit over at 1Up: the next update, or “issue”, of City of Heroes will allow custom missions.
Players will be able to design their own missions, choose the setting and villains, and even write the dialogue. What a cool idea. Once submitted, the missions will be voted on by the community, and the winners will get some sort of in-game reward.
It almost makes me want to reactivate my long-dormant account, not to design my own missions but mainly to see the sort of superhero dialogue other players will create for themselves. Because I’m sure a great deal of it will be entertainingly awful. Full Life Consequences, anyone?

I all ready have a great idea for a mission, I just doubt I will have the control to do it. The idea is you have to defeat a big boss, but when you enter the missions you can chose to take out some underbosses. Taking them out will make the final battle much easier, so it is worth while to get them. Can’t wait to see it on Test server and what not. Haven’t played in weeks…yet still have my account, along with WoW..and TF2…and Warhammer… and … and….to many freaking games!!!11!!12@1

I heard about this a while back - it’ll be interesting to see how exactly they implement it, and whether or not there will be a great deal of control on the player’s end or not.

I demand a mission involving Michael Jackson attempting to take over the world, ending with a DDR-inspired dance sequence set to Thriller.

Wow, sure has come a long way. This one time my friend allowed me to borrow his account. I was Mr. Steamwork, a colossal medieval/scifi cross-breed tank. I had a pet robot called Mini-Me.
It was all such fun just to toy around with the /pet commands and shizzle, I wonder what’s it like now, two years later…

Killa, that is pretty much a mix and mash of all the good HL2 vids on YouTube.
Awesome…..

There are three mods of Half Life 2 that I NEED to play within the next five years (or I’ll die): Black Mesa, Concerned, and Full Life Consequences.
Sadly, no one is making the last two. Nice knowing you guys!
I think it is an interesting idea to create your own story lines, and it is enough to make we want to try out the game; I try to write stories in those few moments of non-TF2 streams of consciousness. You’ll get the whole “DOOD, s4ve teh sity” “Rlly? NO WAI!!!!” , but then you’ll get people who will really put some thought into it and churn out stories that rival professional comics (cuz, y’know, they aren’t trying to do it for the masses).

Oh god.
Have they learned NOTHING from Spore? User generated content is good in theory (like democracy), but tends to break down like the 43 year old divorcee at a speed-dating event as soon as the audience gets too large.
Cue the shockingly bad slash-fic wonder-woman on cat-woman lesbian porn scripts in 3, 2….

@2
I think they already did that.
It’s called Crackdown.

Reading this made me go and activate the trial account I had lying around.
Downloading the client now.

It hasn’t got a release date yet Punjab.

Actually, Star Wars Galaxies has had something similar for a while, called Storyteller missions.

I think it’s a neat idea, but I just remember how we deliberately tried to make our supergroup dumb but were outdone by actual stupidity.

Dude….. Full Life Consequences is like the BIGGEST hl2/gmod video.
19 Mr Brit // Aug 27, 2008 at 3:53 pm
so no one fell for it?
20 rammingspeed42 // Aug 27, 2008 at 4:32 pm
Nope.

I didn’t mean the expansion, Sam, just the game itself.
I got a 14-day trial through some offer or other but never installed it.
I just spent 15 minutes designing a silver and purple hero called The Masked Blackcurrant, then another 5 actually playing until I got bored.
The character creation is great though.

I love both the Full Life Consequences videos.
That music video is great too.

Love that video. Seen it a bunch of times.
25 Bootsie_B // Aug 27, 2008 at 11:34 pm
Although, now that I think about it, you were the one that linked me to it.
26 Unconcerned Sam // Aug 28, 2008 at 3:15 pm
Sorry Punjab, I just meant don’t get ahead of yourself or something :P

Okay, here’s my idea for a City of Heroes mission. You go into a warehouse and beat up a lot of identical-looking dudes. Then you fight a dude who looks just like them, but is somewhat tougher. Then, and here’s the twist, you do that for fifty levels.
