From various iterations of “The Fly” to Stephen King’s short story “The Jaunt” to that stupid-looking movie with that stupid-looking Hayden Christensen, we’re all well versed on the dangers of teleportation.

And still, I haven’t learned. In TF2 last night (while playing as a soldier), I spotted an enemy teleporter exit in our basement in 2Fort, and, hobbled by the latest Steam update, I pulled out my shovel in an effort to conserve what has now become precious rocket ammo.

Well, I got too close, and just as I was about the start bashing to exit pad, the engineer who built the thing teleported through. I was killed, or as they say, telefragged.

Pretty cool, and the first time that’s happened to me in TF2, after months of playing.

I remember the fun old days of Unreal Tournament 2003, I believe it was, where telefragging was a viable offensive attack. Players carried a tool called the Translocater, which was a small disc you could fire a reasonable distance ahead of you. Wherever the disc was (even in midair) you could teleport to. So, you could fling it up on a ledge and ‘port up there, or fling it to the ground from a perch and then teleport safely down without taking fall damage.

Or, and this was the fun part, chuck it in an enemy’s path. As soon as he stepped over it, you could teleport, thus materializing right inside of him, which would cause him to explode. It took a little practice but it soon became a very viable offensive weapon.

    Pwned ;-)
Does anybody actually know, what happens if you are übercharged and somebody tries to telefrag you?

Bots in UT99 were a vicious bunch. I got telefragged by them umpteen times before I disabled the teleporter in practice sessiond XD

Awesome! Next thing to try in TF2: Get Telefragged!

I guess they’d die instead. Or there’d be a time-space paradox an the universe would collapse into the void. And be replaced by something even more bizarrely inexplicable.

I’ve been telefragged a couple times. Always conserving ammo in the process. :)

Ahh, telefragging. I remember getting telefragged back in QUAKE.

Lol I did it to a scout last night by accident, he was so suprised.

I would assume that anyone who was ubercharged could still be telefragged…saw a great example of this on Badlands last night, as a Blue managed to get a kill after they’d lost by teleporting through at the last second and catching a soldier who was standing too close. Got a domination off it as well which added to the humor.

Another thing,
I once saw these fake achievements about dominating yourself as engi, by killing yourself with your own sentry. Anybody ever tried it? Is it possible, and if so, can you get revenge by destroying the sentry?

  • 14 Ayrton // Mar 4, 2008 at 12:39 pm

You can’t shoot yourself with your sentry, but you might be able to kill yourself if someone on your team telefrags you at your teleporter a lot.

@Ayrton: Of course you can be shot by your own sentry. You just have to stand in front of it when an enemy is behind you.
