Well, after a morning of meticulous meddlesome medicing on mostly public servers, I’m happy to report I’ve got the Blutsauger. Some of the achievements I got because I was specifically grinding for them, and totally ignoring the needs of my teammates. Some were just accomplished by playing the game like a non-jerkwad. The achievements I got to unlock it were:
First Do No Harm: Scoring the highest without personally killing anyone wasn’t really that hard because, while I’m a decent healing medic on certain maps, I’m a bad attacking medic on all maps (so while I tried to kill people, I failed), and I was also healing a bunch of my very talented friends. I believe the map was Dogblu. I didn’t even realize I was first in points when the round ended. Go me!
Quadruple Bypass: Healing a teammate who is taking fire from four enemies at once. Easy. Just find a Heavy. I wasn’t trying to specifically achieve this one.
Surgical Prep: Have an uber ready when the set-up clock runs out. Easy. Just find a teammate.
Trauma Queen: Three ubers in five minutes, with five assists. I don’t even recall doing this, so I think I might have died between ubers and lost track. At any rate, Goldrush or Dustbowl are good maps for this one whether you’re grinding or not.
Double Blind Trial: Deploy your uber within a few seconds of another medic deploying his. The pubbies are still crawling with medics, so this isn’t hard even if you’re not trying for it.
Triage: Uber someone who is about to take a critical hit. I didn’t even realize this was an achievement, but while ubering a Heavy I saw a Scout about to run over some crit stickies, so I ubered him in the nick of time.
Preventative Medicine: Block a cap by ubering someone. Dustbowl, Point 1, Stage 3. I was definitely going for the achievement and I think I wound up ubering a sniper just because he was there.
Midwife Crisis: Heal an engie while he’s setting up a sentry under fire. Goldrush is the place to do it. This guy was in no danger of dying: he had a dispenser up already and I think a Scout was pistol-peppering him from about 400 yards away . I just wanted the unlock.
Sawbones: Hit an enemy five times with your saw without dying.
This one was kind of funny. DaShiv, who I mentioned the other day, was a medic on the opposite team on Warpath. He’s an excellent medic (an excellent player in general) and already has the blutsauger, which meant I could basically never kill him. I was out-needled in one-on-one fights and when I chased him with my saw I could never catch him due to us being the same speed, so he’d needle me to death while feasting on my delicious hit points. Frustrating.
Anyway, I guess he was preparing an uber when his patient suddenly died. I charged him with the bonesaw and managed to trap him under the little stairwell near the second point. He ubered solo but couldn’t get past me, and couldn’t kill me without switching to a weapon. I couldn’t kill him because he was ubered and I didn’t want him to escape so I kept him wedged in there, blocking him with my body. So, we were both sort of immobile. Just to pass the time, I rammed my saw into his invulnerable face repeatedly, and got the achievement, which I hadn’t realized would work on an ubered enemy. I can’t recall what happened when his uber wore off, but I’m sure he deftly killed me as he so often does.
Hypocritical Oath: Kill a spy you’ve been healing. I totally did this on purpose. Saw a very unconvincing spy disguised as a soldier skulking around our spawn, healed him for approximately .00078 of a second then bonesawed the shit out of him.
Autopsy Report: Taunt someone you’ve killed. I, um. I died a few times trying to accomplish this. Embarrassing. It was during a very heated round of Goldrush, Stage 3, too. Just awful behavior on my part. Though we won, I still feel guilty about it. I think you have to be right on top of the guy you’ve killed for it to work.
House Call: Join a game a friend is in and uber him: I have something like 90 friends on my Steam list, most of whom I don’t even know, so this wasn’t too hard to get.
One that I’m sort of confused that I haven’t gotten is Second Opinion: ubering two teammates at once. I did this about 10 times and never got the award. Weird.
Anyway, I’m set! I’d like to someday get the KritzKrieg (I still haven’t even seen one in action) but for now I’m happy with my Blutsauger and will go back to only playing medic when my team needs one or I’m just in the mood.

To get Second Opinion, you need to turn off Auto Heal from Options -> Multiplayer -> Advanced, and juggle slowly between the two uber targets.
Regarding Autopsy Report, you must stand on the enemy’s body and he must not click past his still shot.
Autoclave is also easy - you need to have 5 burning enemies when the uber ends (so if they extinguish the flames, trigger an uber, or you attack a pyro it doesn’t count).

Congrats!
Now all you need is not grind some more only to get stuck one achievement away from KritzKrieg which you’ll never get, like some poor bastards.

Grats on the blutsauger. As for Second Opinion, even without auto heal its still a bit tricky. Best to find a couple people really close together and just spaz out clicking them. I still need around 400k heal points, 5 uber soldier kills, and 3 steam friends ubercharges for the ubersaw. And the KritzKrieg really isnt worth it except for Kritzing soldiers who can spam crit rockets from a safe distance.

Autoheal or no autoheal, you have to switch back and forth 3 times to get Second Opinion.

I actually got the ‘Second Opinion’ one really easily, and accidentally to boot. I guess it’s just a finicky achievement.
I connested to a server a friend was on in order to uber him for the ‘House Call.’ Thing is, he was a medic. So, I ubered him for .00083 of a sec (I know, I’m not quite that fast yet) and switched to a nearby soldier. I probably switched quite a few times, because it was so darn hectic and I think I kept ubering a sniper.
So, I got ‘Second Opinion,’ but I didn’t actually get ‘House Call.’ I did get a step on the achievement to uber 10 friends, though. Just nine more to go!

The Blutsauger is really great for sussing out spies, just fire at them an watch for the little ‘+3′ to flick up on your health bar. I’ve got 17 of the medic ones so far.

You know, I’m sort of against VALVe majorly changing team fortress 2’s content like this, now hundreds of reviews on it are to be considered null and void.
Oh, and, Chris, I am interested in creating a Concerned machinima film, and would really love if you could eMail me at mm3guy@gmail.com so I could get in touch with you. Don’t worry, I’m pretty good with faceposer :-)

I got mine yesterday too, can be nice in some situations.
It’s kind of sad how many people go into achievement servers to get the achievements.
I kind of took advantage from that and jumped into a few as a heavy or demoman. And there was lots of blood, lots.

I did use the achievement servers to get the new items, because some of them are just extremely difficult to achieve and because I somehow just want to test the weapons and fool around with them. Since now, that I am wielding the Blutsauger, Kritzkrieg and the Ubersaw I completely stopped playing medic and switched back to spy.
I do like the idea of new weapons, but I do not want to collect achievements.
Weird is that I’ve got the Ubersaw even if I haven’t got the achievement to prevent somebody of breaking his neck after a long fall.

I was grinding relatively hard for the last few days, but I’m proud to say I never neglected my team, I always healed people that need it.. Now I’ve got the blutsauger and the Kritzkrieg(which is a lot less useful than you’d think, you always die half way though the uber). That’s it, I’m not even going to attempt going for the ubersaw, cause I really don’t need it, and I’m not going to spend hours and hours grinding on medic when I could be getting my scout or pyro game up!
12 Lemonpieman // May 3, 2008 at 7:15 pm
The second opinion is half broken, valve is fixing this along with the 3 100% broken ones. I got my kritzereig a couple days ago and it’s incredibly hard to use well.
First off most people you uber with it don’t know they are getting kritz’d and either a:think they are regular ubered and get killed or b:retreat for no reason.
The single time i used it well is when i ubered a pyro and took out their ENTIRE TEAM. Kritzcrieg on pyro is insanely good, but rarely will it do anything.
13 Dan // May 3, 2008 at 7:33 pm
Yeah Second Opinion doesn’t work right all the time. It’s best to turn Auto Heal off, use the normal Medigun, and switch rapidly between your two targets and don’t accidentally stop healing at any time.
I still need Autoclave. :( Need about 5-6 others as well to get the ubersaw.

I’ve seen the Kritzkrieg in action once, and that was when someone generously used it on me as a soldier. The destruction that followed was unbelievable.
15 Altaco // May 3, 2008 at 10:08 pm
I love the kritzkrieg. Some people whine about how it’s useless, but it’s simply more difficult to use properly. It’s harder to judge when to use it and where to attack from and who to uber, but if you get it right, the results can be devastating.
16 Gore-wrath // May 4, 2008 at 12:32 am
I can’t get Quadruple Bypass no matter how hard I try. I’m on offense and the setup just ended, 2 medics to my left and my right get the achievement. Guess who doesn’t? That’s right, me.

Just got the Blutsauger myself - tres fun - and I’m proud to say that it largely came from playing as a useful Medic. Apart from Autopsy Report, but hey, can’t win ‘em all.
As much as I’m against Achievements=Unlocks, having that carrot has made me a much better Medic player (so long as I ignore the further achievements). I approve of that much and I enjoyed it enough to add it to my usual classes of Scout and Pyro.
18 Hurricaaane // May 4, 2008 at 3:41 am
I have the Ubersaw without cheating, and I can say that I feel that the Blutsauger and the Kritzkrieg are quire not worth it when using the Ubersaw, because as the Ubersaw charges your ubercharge, first off, you seriously prefer to get yourself invincible as the effects of critical disappear upon changing weapon, so that you can’t run alone doing criticals yourself, and also, the syringe gun do do critical hits, whereas the blutsauger doesn’t, and seriously you kill with the syringe gun class when you have luckily criticals. So I like to have only the Ubersaw.

You haven’t seen kritzkrieg in action?
I have seen this many times in action few times on me. I was once a heavy and medic gave me uber on dustbowl 2nd cp 3rd stage when no sentries were set up by blues in that long hallway and it was swarming by blues and what happen was total massacre i slaughtered about half of their team.
I played with my brother like 6 hours yesterday and i was able to get that new needlegun to. We done some grinding to like he was medic and i ubered him then he ubered me and we bonesawed enemies. Next time he took demo and we tried to get Medical intervention he died at least 10 times before i got it. But it is way more fun when your patient sits right next to you.
Chris if you have like 90 friends it would be really easy to get Family practice (uber 10 of your steam comunity friends) I also added you to mine in order to play with creator of Gordon Frohman but i have not succeed yet but my brother did and even made it to your blog

punk.

I remember that I was the only one who ever went Medic, and now there are 10 Medics per team and all of them have an ubersaw except me. Dammit.
21 Absalom // May 4, 2008 at 10:03 am
DaShiv got the critzkrieg in about 45 minutes the first day it was out. :) We were practicing some with it. You should ask him.
22 Double -V- // May 4, 2008 at 10:06 am
I’ve not been to impressed with the blutsauger. If your health is high it’s useless and it sucks health so slowly you often get critted by the guy you’re attacking.
The critzkrieg is great, although there are definitely still times you’d want a normal uber. A whole team of critzkrieg medics would not be ideal.
The ubersaw is great though. I’ve not got it yet but getting up to your next uber sooner is definitely worth having.

As a Pyro, I hate, HATE the Blutsauger.
Call me a lousy Pyro, but I think it shouldn’t be possible for a Medic to take down a Pyro 1-on-1 up close.
From TF2 Wiki:
Flamethrower DPS: 30-40
Blusauger Health Gain per second: 30
So the Blutsauger all or most of the damage done the Flamethrower, while killing the Pyro.
???
24 Enedok // May 4, 2008 at 3:05 pm
@Punjabi Fury
Put the medic on fire, run back if he takes up the blutsauger, zigzag to avoind needle fire, and shotgun him.
25 Pwnzerfaust // May 4, 2008 at 5:23 pm
I’ve seen the Blutsauger in action. It’s not really a spectacular killing weapon, and more competent players should be able to take out a medic wielding one with relative ease. From what I can tell, it’s more just used if you get caught in an undesirable situation and need to survive long enough for backup. It’s lack of crits gives it significantly less stopping power than you would think, and the only time I remember seeing people getting killed with it was when they were caught unawares. Basically, it’s great for retreating or if you need a quick health boost, but a medic looking to kick ass on the front-lines is better off with the normal syringe gun.
26 Slamhound // May 5, 2008 at 4:42 am
The thing I discovered about Trauma Queen is that it persists through rounds. Namely, if you pop two ubers in the closing minutes of one round and, maybe, get your five assists in that time you can prep an uber at the start of the second round, pop it, and get your achievement.
I’m not entirely sure if the same is true for First Do No Harm. Maybe you can climb to the top of the leaderboard as another class (Soldier, Engie), then switch to Medic before the round ends, followed by playing the full round gaining healing assists.
27 Dan // May 5, 2008 at 12:04 pm
First Do No Harm requires you get no kills, you may only get kill assists by healing. And points by healing too.
28 Baejung92 // May 5, 2008 at 6:53 pm
They’re counting the milestone achievements toward the weapon unlocks right? Because there are some that I don’t think I’ll EVER be able to get.
29 C.V. Soul // May 5, 2008 at 9:31 pm
I was having trouble hitting specialist, so my friend showed me to a Mario Kart map where medics get 10,000 heal points per second. Although I got chief of staff almost instantly, I regret completely ruining my stats. I now have the records show that my highest score as Medic is more than 6000 points.
