A quick rundown on a few things I didn’t blog about last week but wanted to but didn’t. But wanted to.
But didn’t.
TF2D: A pixellated 2D sidescroller version of TF2, called Gang Garrison 2. It’s the result of the Bootleg Demakes Competition, a contest to remake games in the old-school style. It’s a real multiplayer game, featuring all the TF2 classes, though they only have their primary weapons.
Pre-Portal: An unoffical fan-made prequel to Portal, free-to-play, called Portal: Prelude, is in the works. No definite release date, though their blog says it’ll be released near the end of the month. It’ll have eight chapters and around 20 test chambers, plus a bunch of advanced maps and challenges. It’ll also feature original voice acting and new models, due to it taking place before GlaDOS was activated and Aperture Science was staffed by human beings. I assume it doesn’t end well for them.
Left 4 Dead Watch: A ten-minute video presentation by Gabe Newell on Left 4 Dead, showcasing new footage, developer goals, and technical aspects of the game like the AI director, graphics, in-game physics, and lighting. Look, enough. Enough already. Just give us the fucking game.

I bought STALKER Clear Sky, but it won’t run. I’ll take another crack at it tonight.

I know what you mean about L4D, I think we all know what it’s about, we just want it to play!

When I was playing Portal I was thinking it would be awesome to play a prelude to portal in which aperture science wasn’t abandoned. I’m so happy someone with modding experience thought the same thing!

I want someone to create a mod for TF2 that would include the protagonist from Portal. I know it would break the “flow” of the game, but would be awesome nonetheless.
Maybe include some of the infected bosses from Left 4 Dead as well?

Cool to see some Left 4 Dead in action. It looks so fun. I’m a bit worried that the director may influence some people to try to game it, ie asking people on the server to play poorly deliberately to make for easier going, either for bragging rights, boosting stats through HLStatsX, or achievements. However, I’m sure if I find a good server run by people who just want to have fun, that won’t be an issue, just like how it is with TF2 and achievement grinding.
Of course, I haven’t been able to play TF2 in over a month thanks to a stupid framerate issue which came up after the heavy update on my MacBook Pro running Windows XP via boot camp. I can’t get the game to render more than 9 frames a second when I’m used to 30-60 FPS at least, and I’ve tried everything, including reinstalling Windows XP totally. I don’t mean to make this into a tech support thread, but if anyone else is having this problem, I’d like to hear it.

I can’t wait for L4D. I will DIE without it.

Kinda offtopic but, to those waiting for Fallout 3 but haven’t played the other games in the series, it seems Fallout 1 will be downloable for free soon.

Did you play the original Stalker? I don’t recall mention of it here.
Did you ever play any of the mods (i.e. Oblivion Lost) for it?
I’ll take the answers to my questions in the form of a post, please, thanks.
